Classes of Licences

When applying for an iGaming Licence under Maltese legislation, the operator has to apply under one of four classes of licences. Contacting Gonzi & Associates Advocates, you will be in contact with lawyers that can advise you under which category would be best to apply.

Classes are issued for a period of five (5) years and can be subsequently renewed.

Each class carries with it different fees and taxes.

These classes are the following:

Class 1

For operators managing their own risk on repetitive games. This class covers casino-type games, skill games and online lotteries.

Class 2

For operators managing their own risk on events based on a matchbook. Fixed odds betting, pool betting and spread betting fall under this class.

Class 3

For operators taking a commission from promoting and/or betting games. This class includes P2P, poker networks, betting exchange and game portals.

Class 4

This licence is intended for those who host and manage remote gaming operators, excluding the licensee himself. This is intended for software vendors who want to provide management and hosting facilities on their platform.
